Buying your First Firearm in Maryland
When purchasing a regulated firearm in Maryland, you will need to take steps in training, and registering with the state. We will walk you through the steps needed to make your purchase as easy as possible, and help you avoid mistakes others have made over the years.
Step 1 - Look for Professional HQL Instructors
All HQL instructors are licensed by the Maryland State Police, but not all instructors are equal. You need to decide what is important to you as a student. In the past two years there has been an explosion of instructors in Maryland - many provide the HQL on a part time basis. At Fortress Training, we are full time firearms instructors who have helped thousands of Marylanders obtain their HQL. Learn more or sign up for one of our classes.

Step 2 - Create an account with the Maryland State Police to Purchase a Firearm
You can create an account right now. However, you cannot go past the first section until you are ready to purchase a firearm and are in possession of your HQL License. If you wait until after you obtain your HQL, you need to first register before you go to the gun store.

Step 3 - Save on the Purchase of the Gun
Getting all your HQL costs back when you buy a gun! There are a number of gun stores that add the HQL as a way to get you to purchase a firearm from them. We respect that as a business model, but we don't sell guns. We focus on one thing - training you. Because of that, I can share with you tips on how to save on a firearm. As a matter of fact, in our training we will share with you how to save up to $200.00 on your first firearm! This basically gives you all your HQL training and licensing costs back when you purchase a firearm.
